The Micali Painter and His Followers

Oxford, Clarendon Press, 1987. 103 pp. Illustrated with drawings and photographs. Hardcover with dust jacket. Good condition, tight and clean copy.

The Micali Painter is one of the most lively of ancient vase painters. He is one of the first personalities to be identified in Etruscan art, and the leading exponent of  a black-figure style that owed more to native imagination than the influence of imported Athenian vases. The book presents the full stylistic study of the painter, with a catalogue of his surviving work. Much of the material is hitheretho unpublished, and the illustrations have been chosen to furnish a full documentation of the Micali Painter’s range and originality.
