    Original 18th century engraving of a bat. Hand-coloured copperplate engraving by J. S. Leitner after Jacques de Seve. Name of the species engraved in Latin.

     

    Good condition with bright colours. Dimensions 25 x 19 cm.

     

    This engraving is from German naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber’s Die Säugethiere in Abbildungen nach der Natur mit Beschreibungen (Animal Illustrations after Nature). Schreber was the first scientist who described this species – therefore the nickname Schreber’s yellow bat!
