Very rare original hawk plate from Hermann Schlegel’s Fauconnerie printed in 1844. Hand-coloured lithographic print by Joseph Wolf. Large folio size (66 x 50 cm) – almost life size! – illustration.
Very good condition. Bright colours, no foxing, soiling or tears.
Hermann Schlegel’s ”Traité de Fauconnerie” is the finest and rarest book on falconry comprising 16 hand-coloured lithographic plates of hawks and falconry equipment. Joseph Wolf was a German artist who gained reputation as a very talented natural history illustrator and wildlife artist.
