Frederick Sander’s original Orchid illustration. Large folio-size chromolithographic print from 1890s. Good condition with bright colours.
Sander’s Reichenbachia – Orchids Illustrated and Described was published in 1888-1894. It included 192 chromolithographic plates, some finished by hand. The book was Sander’s answer to growing popularity of Orchids and the increasing demand for information respecting them. According to Sander the intention was to illustrate all classes of the Orchid family and represent truthfully the natural aspects of the plants which will be drawn in life size.
