    Copenhague, Nicolas Möller, 1773. First French edition. 4to. Pages XLIII, (3), 372, (1). Illustrated with 25 plates of which 7 are maps. 6 of the plates are folding.

     

    Full leather binding wit gilt decorated spine and five raised bands. Fair condition. Leather very worn, spine darkened and front cover and front free end paper are completely loose. The binding needs repairing. Internally better condition. Some foxing especially near beginning. All plates are in good condition. No markings, no tears.

     

    Carsten Niebuhr was a German explorer who took place in the Royal Danish Arabia expedition in 1761-1767. Present copy is the first French-language edition of the originally German-language work Beschreibung von Arabien published in 1772.
