A La Haye, Chez Jean Neaulme, 1737. FIRST EDITION. Published posthumously. (4), 244, (4) pp. Contemporary full stiff vellum, with gilt titles on morocco onlay on spine. Title piece in red and black with copper engraved printer’s device. Head and tail pieces in text with woodcut decorated first initial. Interiors quite browned and spotted due mostly to the kind of paper, with some pages more affected than others.
Origine de la grandeur de la Cour de Rome. The present work is a dissertation against the power of Rome hold by the Pontiff in contrast with those of the monarch of France. The subject is the nomination of Bishops and other ecclesiastical authorities in France, the elections and removal of Abbots at monasteries and religious institutions in France suggesting the independence of French monarchs from the roman court .
The present copy also include in the end the Catalogue de livres imprimez chez Jean Neaulme, that is the original catalogue of books printed and sold by Jean Naulme. Among other works of the French historian rene Aubert de Vertor (1655-1735) Histoire des chevaliers hospitaliers de S.
