    Alvar Aalto Villa Mairea 1938-39

Alvar Aalto Foundation/Mairea Foundation, 1998. 168 pp. Hardcover with dustjacket. Good condition. English-language edition. Illustrated with 355 photographs and pictures (198 in colour).

The Villa Mairea, designed by Alvar Aalto in 1937-38, is one of the seminal houses of the twentieth century. Designed as a residence for a progressive industrialist Harry Gullichsen and his art collector wife Maire, it manifests a modern utopia; the luxury villa was seen as an experiment in the modern life style and architecture that could be later applied to standard housing.

This book is edited by Juhani Pallasmaa with an introduction by Kristian Gullichsen, essays by Göran Schildt, Juhani Pallasmaa and Renja Suominen-Kokkonen, photographs by Rauno Träskelin, and measured drawings by Darren Stewart Capel.
